Last weekend my wife Lisa and I completed the gruelling Trek26 Challenge hike (26 mile) through the beautiful Peak District. Together we have raised over £750 with more pledges still to be received. Our start time was 6:30 a.m. which meant a very early start from home at 5 a.m. but by the time we had arrived at the Bakewell Showground event hub and had breakfast we (and 800 others) were ready to go.

Given that we are more used to trail running than walking our training had been at a reasonably fast hiking pace and we travelled with light hydration packs and light comfortable trail running shoes rather than heavier hiking boots that most had opted for. This was a great decision as we finished feeling remarkably fresh with no blisters and in a very respectable time of 8 hours 36 minutes including around 30 minutes at checkpoints and refuelling stops. Over the 26 miles we achieved an Elevation Gain of 4000 feet.

We also had a surprise meeting with ATS Industrial Engineer Dan Storer who was doing the trek with his father and brother.

The hike took in some great scenery along the way…. Haddon Hall, Chatsworth estate, Baslow Edge, Stoney Middleton (a location for the recent Mission Impossible film) and Eyam (famous Plague village) before winding back to Bakewell where we were greeted with cheers and a glass of bubbly!
