DSM Dyneema was implementing a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) in their global manufacturing sites. ATS has been chosen as the partner for Maintenance & Support because of present knowledge in Simatic IT, continuity of service delivery in different time zones, strategy for service delivery, and their view on the future and last but not least; because of the offered market conform costs and rates.Manufacturing Execution System (MES) connects the manufacturing process to the supply chain management system and is used by DSM Dyneema to improve response to demand, manufacturing efficiency and quality. There is complex interfacing with the physical control layer and the business management layer where the real-time world of production has to interface with DSM’s IT systems.

The MES+ project requires rock solid deployment and rock solid support. A rigorous selection process included an on-site audit of ATS and site visits to ATS customers, Rolls-Royce Aerospace and Carlsberg Breweries. The selection team at DSM Dyneema were able to freely exchange ideas during these visits and further develop the planned support structure. ATS was selected as the company who could best provide global 24/7 support to DSM Dyneema.

Hein Willems and Bas Jansen (DSM Dyneema):
‘Implementation of MES is a strategic choice which amongst other will give us the opportunity to have an integrated system in place steering production on it’s most effective and efficient way. Reduction of manual actions in the production processes and replacement of obsolete systems and applications are recognized as spin-off’s for the project. Automatic collection of data and analyzing tools will help us to further improve information reporting within the different production sites. ATS has been chosen as our partner for Maintenance & Support because of their present knowledge in Simatic IT, continuity of service delivery in different time zones, strategy for service delivery, and their view on the future and last but not least; because of the offered market conform costs and rates.’

Mike James, Group Managing Director of ATS International:
‘The MES+ project at DSM Dyneema is a mission critical system and has to run 24/7. ATS has developed a well structured support system with both remote and on-site support for global and local manufacturers. We specialize in no-nonsense support, production must be kept running, the cause of an incident rapidly identified and corrected. The support architecture has to take into account the myriad of problems which can occur and superb coordination of suppliers is essential to rapid problem solving. The selection process followed by DSM Dyneema has impressed us on many levels. Not only was the team thorough they also looked for step change in the support process and constantly listened to ideas on how to achieve that change. Hein, Bas and Linda then made sure that all the partners in the project were aligned, including DBIS (DSM IT) and Siemens in Genoa, who are supplying the Simatic IT software, which is at the heart of the MES+ system. We are proud to work with this team and to offer our capability as a leading 24/7 support supplier to DSM Dyneema. We are sharing the goal to maintain production and regularly offer ideas to reduce support costs to be part of the step change.’
