ATS operates a flexible schedule to match customer requirements with training class scheduling. If you have 3 or more people to be trained, we will generally organize a class to meet your needs either on-site or locally. For individuals and small groups, we also offer our 'pairing program' where we register your requirements and team you up with others in your region looking for the same course. We then fix dates. For more specific information please call your local ATS office or fill in our contact form.

Apart from Training Courses which take place in ATS Training Centres, ATS also proposes On-Site Courses and Regional Training Courses. For more information on ATS Training Courses, please look further on our Web site, or fill in the Contact Form and we'll come back to you as soon as possible.

ATS also proposes ATS Training Vouchers which can be used for personnel motivation, any scheduled ATS Training, budget planning, performance rewards etc.

Training Target Group

This course is designed for engineers who need to design and configure a ControlLogix system. The objective of this course is to provide sufficient knowledge and experience to be able to develop, configure and program a ControlLogix system.

Training (Pre) Knowledge

To join this course, a good working knowledge of Windows 95/98/NT user interfaces is required as well as a basic knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLC-5 or SLC-500 processors. If necessary, other training courses are available to build up this knowledge. Finally, knowledge on industrial networks like Data Highway is definitely advantageous.

Training Global Contents

If necessary, knowledge on ControlNet is first brought up to the required level. The configuration portion of the course covers online communication with a ControlLogix system, data organisation of the Logix5550 processor and data exchange over multi-protocol networks. Configuration of the DH+/RIO gateway, ControlNet gateway and Ethernet gateway modules will be covered in lecture and lab exercises. Participants will have the opportunity to use the tools RSLogix5000, ControlLogix Gateway and RS Networks for ControlNet software.

Training Methods

ATS courses are given by highly qualified trainers, with practical knowledge, in professional ATS training centres or On-Site. Prior to the course an intake conversation can take place to define the participant(s) and the company's requirements. Presentations (theory and examples) as well as practical exercises bring the courses to life. ATS courses are interactive; the trainer will always make sure the training contents link back to your situation.

Training Specific Contents

  • Configure the ControlLogix 5550 processor with tasks, programs and routines.
  • Configure data memory by creating tags, structures and arrays.
  • Enter ladder logic into scheduled and unscheduled routines and subroutines.
  • Discussion on the instruction set.
  • Implement and communicate with I/O Modules and demonstrate an understanding of the concept of Network Update Time (NUT).
  • Share data between Logix5550 Controllers and acquiring insight into the producer/consumer model.
  • Establish fault-handling routines.
  • Establish data transfers over a control network with peer-to-peer communications.
  • Communicate to the ControlLogix backplane through DH+, Serial, Ethernet and ControlNet modules using RSGateway software.
  • Convert a PLC/SLC System to a ControlLogix System using the ControlLogix software.
