After a history of developing cost alternative HMI's, Kepware began the development of OPC and DDE server products in early 1996. OPC stands for OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) for Process Control. In general, OPC technology provides the ability to easily interconnect various devices or software packages from different vendors in a system. The philosophy behind OPC is that it should be as easy to add a PLC to a certain system, as it is to add a printer or graphics card.
